Did you choose a wedding in the warm season mainly for the sake of beautiful photographs? You’re not alone in this! For you and thousands of brides, we share tips and ideas for a summer wedding photo shoot that will make it stunning wherever you take your pictures.
Tips for a successful summer wedding photo shoot
- At this time of year it is better to be photographed in nature, but also in the city you will get great pictures, if you approach to business with imagination. Either way, get out of the room, don’t do it in four walls.
- Think of a plan B in case of bad weather. You could be threatened with heat and stuffiness or heavy rain. Decide in advance where you’re going with the photographer if you have to do it.
- Think about the images – will you be photographed in the main wedding dress or will you wear a separate one specifically for the photo shoot? Should I change my fiancé? Do you have any pretty umbrellas in case of rain?
- Choose the famous “golden hour” with soft flowing light, which comes around 5 pm. In addition, sunrise or sunset will suit you, especially at sea. If the sun is shining brightly, the pictures will not flatter you at the wrong time (e.g. noon). Checked out.
Ideas for a photo shoot in town
If you want nature even in the city, look for a park, botanical garden or a small artificial pond. For interesting photos, have a picnic, feed birds and squirrels, play games (badminton, jenga, petanque) and lie on the grass.
Take a fresh look at the usual city buildings and attractions – what will the photos look like differently? Perhaps it’s worth looking at them from a different angle for a summer wedding photo shoot, coming from a new angle, or just coming closer to see the barely noticeable details?
Walk through the streets of the city, choosing the most picturesque ones. It’s better to do it early in the morning so there’s no outsiders in the frame. Hold hands, sing, dance, kiss, enjoy this day! Position the photographer against the background of your favorite windows and walls, iron cats passing by, drink coffee and eat ice cream.
Stay at a cafe with pretty tables and chairs outside. Have a rest and, of course, pose. Order coffee in photogenic coffee cups or a deliciously looking dessert – this will serve as a good props.
You can also consider transport as a requisite, so if you can use it, do not miss it. Get on the old tram and take a picture on the tripod or inside. Take a ride around town on a moped or bicycle. Even a scooter with a gyroscooter will bring the photos to life.
An unusual place for photos will be an abandoned area of the city – such buildings and unused railroad branches often look picturesque. But keep in mind that these places are not always safe. Besides, it’s often dirty out there, save your clothes.
The most romantic idea for a summer wedding photo shoot in your city is a sunset roof. You two, sunset and breathtaking views of the city. Check which rooftops you can go to and pick up escorts who know them.
Ideas for a nature photo shoot
The obvious choice is what nature itself offers. The forest has magical photos if the light falls correctly. Walk through the woods, pick mushrooms and berries, sit on fallen trees.
The bank of a river or lake is usually spectacular in itself, you don’t need additional props. You can find a boat if you want to and even decorate it. Don’t forget to take pictures of your reflections in the water.
The idea for a wedding photo shoot in summer is a field of flowers or wheat. Here you can put and decorate a small table or do without it.
When organizing a wedding outdoors, choose a venue where you can hold part of the photo shoot. Well, if there is a well-groomed meadow, pergola, landscape design or a small artificial lake. The garden on or near the playground should also attract attention and encourage you to come in for a couple of bright pictures of you picking apples in a basket or admiring red roses.
Many couples use the rural theme for a photo shoot in the countryside or on a farm. Be careful not to be too realistic. The photos at the stack will look spectacular, and the bride pretending to be a milkmaid or climbing in her boots is too much.
Another idea for the summer wedding photo shoot is to attract pets. If you have a favorite dog or cat, take them with you. Or maybe there’s a horse stables near you?
Ideas for a photo shoot at sea
You’re going to a wedding in warm countries and you’re planning on going for a walk with a photographer there? Make sure you get not only standard beach shots at the surf edge, but something more interesting. A few ideas for a wedding photo shoot in the summer, out of the usual scheme of sea-sand:
- on or under the boardwalk pier
- from fallen trees
- next to a bunch of boulders
- on a motorboat or a yacht
- on decent-looking sunbeds and umbrellas
- underwater photo shoot
Think about your clothes – the bride in a magnificent wedding dress and the groom in a black suit look ridiculous in the tropical climate under the palm trees, it hurts to look at them. Choose a light, bright outfit that fits the sea, and for the groom – cotton or linen pants with a shirt. Take a set of beautiful swimsuits/bathing suits to take pictures in them.
The props for the summer photo shoot
With the right place and thought-out images there is no need for props. But if you want to, think about food – cups of coffee, photogenic cakes, ice cream, lemonade in sweaty glasses. Accessories to help you keep your hands occupied and relax if you get nervous – soap bubbles, flowers, balloons, colorful crayons, colored smoke, or even colored chalk. Cool sunglasses will decorate not just one frame, but a big hat will be a hit. And don’t forget the matching umbrellas in case of rain!
