Hit, drink, play, drive: how to entertain the guests without a host?

The host is the face and voice of the holiday. He’s gonna light up, have fun, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah… Let’s erase the templates, and instead draw something fresh and original?! For example, 7 ideas on how to entertain guests without the help of a presenter. Let’s go!

In this article we won’t talk about magicians, cartoonists, photo booths and bubble shows. You know about them without us! Catch some unorthodox ways to make friends with the Millers and make a wild annealing at the party. And it doesn’t matter if it’s a wedding with the host or a chamber event without him: ideas will fit both scenarios of the holiday. Spoiler: At the end of the article, the comedian-clubbie and famous showman Dmitry Kojoma will tell you why it’s better not to give up the presenter at all!

1. Lets play: Board (and not only) games

When’s that gonna work? If there are a lot of young people at the wedding, if guests have to spend a lot of time waiting for their newlyweds, if the holiday will be held on the big stage or outdoors. In this case, the games will help to befriend all the guests, relax them and wrap them in the atmosphere of children’s joy.

It is important to choose not too clever and long games, but easy and interesting, where you do not have to strain and be afraid to embarrass yourself (as it can be with the intellectual!) Miniature golf, table football, “Danetka”, “Crocodile” – the mother of the bride, explaining the gestures of skunk – that’s a laughingstock! 🙂

2. Letters to the future from guests

It’s an alternative to a book/tree or something. The essence of it is that the guests write letters to the newlyweds, but not those that the newly baked couple will read right after the wedding, with the words “Be always happy and blah blah blah blah blah”, but on a certain occasion.

The bride and groom’s task is to come up with a few funny headings in advance that relate to real-life situations, such as “Open the letter after the first quarrel,” “When you want to strangle each other,” “In moments of sadness,” “When you want to laugh,” and so on. And we need to prepare containers or crates for each column. The guest chooses which letter he writes to the couple. And when that very moment comes, you will open the right box and have fun or reconcile yourself, if your wife scolded for scattered socks, and your husband was offended!

3. Bartender show: to love!

Nothing will make Fockers and Millers feel more comfortable than hot drinks and a positive atmosphere! Trust the bartender, who is almost like a psychologist, has a talent for liberating people and making them a little closer… and drunker! 🙂

Everybody will be drinking at the wedding, but drinking after a spectacular show or even taking part in the creation of a cocktail for the future father-in-law – that’s more fun! Will fix the effect of wow using lights, music, pyrotechnics, fire, juggling and other bartender chips.

But don’t overdo it with strong drinks at the very beginning of the holiday: the guests still need to be sober to go out and remember the whole wedding, not just what happened before the bartender show! At non alcohol weddings you can serve soft drinks, frescoes and smoothies.

4. Flipbook from wedding: from photo to video

And this is an alternative to a photo booth and Polaroid photos! A flipbook is a lot of color photos gathered in one book. With a quick turnaround, they turn into a video with you in the lead role! The guests will be delighted and admit that it was one of the main thrills of the wedding.

How does this work? At the festival set up a flipbook studio with equipment and props. Guests come and go in short and dynamic clips (about 7 seconds) and in a few minutes get their book with a flipbook photo! Believe me, it’s cooler than bringing home magnets, cookies and just single photos!

5. Wedding afterburner: car racing on the remote control

All adults are just tall children! And men are like that. Driving on controlled cars instead of a starchy and high-society cocktail of welcome with harpists – what could be better?

Mini-trails can be installed on the floor or on a table. There is only one danger of such entertainment: the guests will be so passionate about the game that they can forget why they all gathered. But don’t panic: you can remind them of the event by changing the machines to wedding machines.

6. Quest for guests

Quests have captured the attention of millions of people around the world and migrated smoothly into the wedding-sphere. And it is clear: the brain is working, the eyes are afraid, the hands are doing, the adrenaline is on the limit, and the thirst for victory covers with the head! : )

Live quests with moving around the playground will be suitable for the wedding. For such entertainment it is necessary: a) a lot of space, b) time for its passage in order not to separate the guests from the main celebration. Hide tasks in different objects, create puzzles, set traps – do everything you can imagine. And if you don’t have enough, you can hire a quest developer. Yes, there are!

The second option – static field quests. This is most often a container, box (for example, telephone) and other variations of the quest without moving, a la “try to get out of the room”. And you don’t need a lot of space, and it’s interesting!

7. Pignata: Hit her harder!

Oh, it’s a childhood dream for all of us! Remember, in American movies on holidays, children beat a rainbow unicorn or a shiny ball suspended from a tree with baseball bats and beat them until the figure broke and prizes, candy and confetti fell from there? Well, that’s what they call a piñata! : )

For the wedding, you can prepare a few of these toys of papier-mache or wrapping paper so that guests could not once watch the wreckage of a mumps, heart or some animal, as well as laugh at waving sticks with closed eyes of the participant! Needless to say, the pictures from such entertainment will be as lively, sparkling and juicy as possible!

Here comes the promised advice from the expert : )

Dmitry Kozhoma
, showman, presenter (Moscow)

It’s not enough to just say something into the microphone and periodically hold contests, reading the text-script from the paper. The task of the presenter is to organize
guests and be responsible for the logic of the day and entertainment of
the wedding

Individual elements and interactions at the celebration may well take place without outside participation. But it’s hard to get the whole party out on your own, without a presenter.

The presenter knows when to send guests to the dance floor to move a little, and when it is time to raise glasses … He is always ready for unusual situations, can gently prevent conflicts and bring the course of the wedding in a different direction!

And a few more tips on holiday entertainment:

  • Say “No!” to the over-saturated program. Don’t turn a wedding into a concert or worse, a circus! In any case, everything will not be in time: it will be hard both physically and emotionally, not only for you and your fiancé, but also for the guests. Guests should not be torn between contests, congratulations, toasts, shows and entertainment.
  • Don’t overdo it! Do not scuffle like a goose on New Year’s Eve with different activities and rooms. I’d rather have less, but better! Choose only what reflects the style and idea of the wedding! And without additional entertainment at the wedding there are a lot of interesting activities: the first meeting of the bride and groom, traveling ceremony, the first dance, dance with parents, taking out the cake, throwing a bouquet and garter, lighting the hearth, the finale of the evening. This is not counting the work of the presenter, his interactivity and contests, and do not forget about the dance, show program and artists!
  • Follow the logical pauses between activities. Between all these activities you need to maintain a balance, so that you and your fiancé and guests have time for simple communication, snacks (whatever it is there!), selfies, reflections (selfies with their other half), belfies (photos of the back facade of your body) and all other types of photography. 🙂
